  Chetanalaya Eco-Brick Making: A Solution to Pollution The Government of India pledged to “Say No to Single Use Plastic” last year. Is it going to be easy? No way.  The consumerist culture and ‘use and throw’ attitude has flooded our daily life with single use plastic in the form of wrappers of the products, polythene bags, pouches and so on. We often do not segregate them, even if we segregate and keep, the person who removes the waste  mixes it together and takes to the land fill. We witness this too in the resettlement colonies or other communities that single use plastic either reaches the drainage system or the landfill. The negative impact of single use plastic is alarming. Pope Francis calls today’s situation as a climate emergency while others may call it a climate change or climate crisis. An Introduction to Chetanalaya Environment Education Centre

Chetanalaya, a not-for-profit organization, has been serving the most marginalized communities in the resettlement colonies of NCT of Delhi and in 5 districts of Haryana for the last 50 years. Chetanalaya works on 12 thematic areas and one of them is the environment protection. Chetanalaya was one of the pioneers who promoted jute bags a decade ago and the campaign titled 'Green Shoppers' by the then Chief Minister of NCT of Delhi, Smt. Sheila Dixit. As the years passed by, Chetanalaya also enter into other interventions that promoted environment protection such as plastic recycling and paper recycling. To move towards the sustainable future, we have dedicated one of the centres as 'Chetanalaya Enviornment Education Centre' at Bhaleswa. In this centre, we promote 'recycle paper', organic farming, permaculture, pot-making, fish-farming, Eco-brick Making, Kitchen Waste Compost and so on.
